About us
The Croatian Olympic Academy is one of 150 recognized National Olympic Academies spread around the world on five continents and is an integral part of the International Olympic Academy, the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic movement. The establishment and operation of the Croatian Olympic Academy is determined by the Olympic Charter as a fundamental act of the Olympic movement and world sport and represents one of the tasks of the International Olympic Committee, the International Olympic Academy and the National Olympic Committees (Croatian Olympic Committee).
The Olympic Charter of the International Olympic Committee as the statute of Olympism in the world determines National Olympic Committees to propagate the fundamental principles and values of Olympism in their country, especially in the fields of sports and education, by encouraging the creation of institutions dedicated to Olympic education, such as National Olympic Academies. The statute of the Croatian Olympic Committee determined the establishment of the Croatian Olympic Academy for the purpose of "systematic encouragement and promotion of Olympism, promotion of Olympic principles, fair play and tolerance, and participation in the implementation of the Olympic Solidarity program" and "taking care of the promotion and implementation of programs of professional training and improvement of persons for the performance of professional jobs in sports". Accordingly, at its 22nd session on October 27, 1992, the Council of the Croatian Olympic Committee accepted the initiative of the Croatian Society for the History of Sports on the establishment of the Croatian Olympic Academy, and at its 58th session on June 27, 1996, it adopted a decision on the establishment of the Croatian Olympic Academy as a body of the Croatian Olympic Committee. On October 15, 2001, the Assembly of the Croatian Olympic Committee passed a decision on the establishment of the Croatian Olympic Academy as a separate legal entity. The Croatian Olympic Academy is managed by a Board of five members under the leadership of the President. The duty of the president of the Croatian Olympic Academy was for a period of time performed by the president of the Croatian Olympic Academy, Zlatko Matesa, and from December 3, 2008 to January 22, 2015, the president of the Croatian Olympic Academy was Prof. Franjo Prot. Since January 22, 2015, the position of President of the Board of the Croatian Olympic Academy has been held by Dr. sc. Tonci Tadic, who is also the president of the Croatian Aikido Association.
