Zagreb, 31 July 2022 - The Croatian Olympic Committee (NOC of Croatia) welcomed the majority of the 76 Croatian athletes aged 14 to 18 in Zagreb who participated at the XVI Summer European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in Banska Bystrica (24-30 July).

Of nine medals won (5 gold and 4 silver), six came from Athletics, three from Swimming, and interestingly, eight were won by female athletes and only one by male athletes. Before the Zagreb welcome, Varaždin natives had the opportunity to welcome three of their great sports hopes, gold medalists - high jumper Jana Koščak and swimmer Lucijana Lukšić (200M Freestyle) and silver athlete Janko Kišak (110M Hurdles). In front of the House of Sports in Zagreb, two-time swimming medalist Jana Pavalić (gold in 50M and silver in 100M Freestyle) spoke about the impressions from the EYOF, as well as of the with medals decorated athletes - golden Lara Jurčić (200 m) and Mia Wild (100M Hurdles) and silver - long jumper Anna Ćurković and sprinter Vita Penezić (100M).
From all that has been said, one can draw the conclusion that they are overjoyed with the achievements, and additionally with the atmosphere that reigned in the Croatian National Team at EYOF.
The Head of the Croatian Olympic Committee’s Mission at EYOF in Banska Bystrica Petra Nosso thanked young athletes for their performance and exceptional success, but also their parents for "raising wonderful young people who in every way represented their homeland brilliantly at this sports event". Croatia finished in the medal performance rankings in sharing a very respectable 11th place with Sweden, and EYOF featured young athletes from 48 national Olympic committees of European countries.
