Olympics, as these, in many aspects innovative games, will bring a great legacy to the Argentine capital - Bach added.
In addition to the fact that they were open and closed on the city square, not at the stadium, the Games will also enter the Olympic history due to for the first time applied rule of equal numbers of male Olympics and female Olympians.
More than 4,000 athletes from 206 countries competed for 32 medals during 12 days, and Croatia will remember these Games mostly for silver medals in beach handball won by our female handball team and two bronze medals – won by taekwonda Lena Stojković (up to 44 kg) and judoka Ane Viktoria Puljiz (up to 44 kg), who also won gold as a member of a mixed international team. Puljiz, as our most successful representative, carried the Croatian flag at the closing of the Games.
Total performance of our 36 female representatives and male representatives is worse compared to the previous YOG, in Chinese Nanjing 2014, where 24 Croatian female and male athletes won six medals (three gold, one silver and two bronze medals). The first performance in Singapore 2010 was also more successful, however, with 25 our medals (gold, silver and two bronze medals) won by young Olympians for Croatia, and including team gold medal of judoka Puljiz, the same number of medals arrived to Our Beautiful Homeland..
New generations of Olympic Olympians at the age of 15 to 18 will perform in the winter version of the YOG in Lausanne in Switzerland in 2020 and then by in the 4th edition of the Summer YOG, in 2022 hosted by the Senegalese capital Dakar.
