The Games, held from 25 June to 6 July, were opened at the "Ahmed Zabana" Stadium by the Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. There are around 3,400 athletes from 26 Mediterranean countries from three continents (including countries that gained this status through membership in previous state forms) competing at the Mediterranean Games 2022.
More than half of the total number of participants came from 18 European countries (Albania, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, Montenegro, France, Greece, Croatia, Italy, Kosovo, Malta, Monaco, Portugal, San Marino, North Macedonia, Slovenia, Serbia, and Spain). Africa is represented by 636 male and female athletes from five countries – the host Algeria (324), Egypt (191), Tunisia (175), Morocco (137) and Libya (149). Asia is represented by 388 athletes from three countries - 324 from Turkey, thirty-eight from Lebanon and twenty-six from Syria. Including the accompanying staff, Oran will host a total of 5150 participants during the Mediterranean Games.

Croatia performs with 105 male and female athletes in seventeen sports, and around twenty of them who do not have competitions on the very first day participated in the solemn parade.
Of seven sports scheduled for Sunday (26 June), Croatian representatives in Karate and Wrestling can even reach medals. The rest of our representatives – in Badminton, Bowling, Boxing, Gymnastics and Men's and Women's Volleyball – shall face the qualifying matches. (NOC of Croatia/VK)
