At the meeting, whose co-organizers, besides the Council of Europe, were the Central State Office for Sports and the Office for Gender Equality of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, COC’s Vice President, Morana Paliković Gruden, also the President of the Gender Equality in Sport Commission of the national Olympic organization, spoke of the insufficient representation of women in leadership positions in Croatia. Hundred of local and thirty-odd foreign participants (including the representatives of the Ministry of Sports from about ten countries) carefully listened to the presentation by Gordana Borko, secretary of the COC's Gender Equality in Sport Commission, on the activities of the said Commission (example of good practice).
The aim of the conference was to detect – based on the research results - the scope, causes and consequences of gender-based violence and inequality in sports, to initiate solutions for increasing the representation of women in leadership positions and to offer measures for preventing all the forms of violence against women in sports. According to the announcements, the fight for gender equality in sports will continue with new high-quality meetings, such as this one, in the next year as well. (COC/VK)
