In the over 80 kg category, Ivan Šapina proved invincible. In quarterfinals he defeated Dinko Šegedin of BiH with 24-3, then in semifinals Italy's Roberto Botta (18-15) and finally the Moroccan representative Ayoub Bassel (35-25).
Bruno Duvančić secured at least bronze in the 49kg category with a quarterfinals’ victory 11-9 against Tunisia's Ikram Dhahri, and then got stuck on his way to the finals in a 7-5 match against Turkey's Merva Dincel.
Lovro Brečić also won bronze in the 68 kg category. He started with a 26-6 victory over San Marino's Michele Ceccaroni and a convincing 42-10 quarterfinals’ victory against Albania's Juird Cani. But then he lost the semifinals’ match with Turkey's Hakan Recber (33-36).
With three Taekwondo medals, the number of Croatian medals in Algeria - 18 in total, exceeded the number of medals from the previous Games in Tarragona (17 medals).
