Following each general election, the WOA Executive Committee elects two Vice Presidents from among its members who have previously been nominated by their respective continental groupings. Boraska and Rakotozafy replace Pernilla Wiberg, the current President of WOA, and Mikako Kotani, who did not stand for re-election to the WOA Executive Committee.
WOA President Pernilla Wiberg said: “We wanted to have a combination of experience, fresh perspectives and gender balance. Igor has distinguished himself through his work on the WOA Executive Committee, while Rosa, as a new member of the Executive Committee, brings a fresh perspective that will complement our work.”
“Rosa becomes our first Vice President from Africa, highlighting the growth of WOA on that continent and the importance we place on ensuring that diverse voices are heard as we formulate policy and review our actions,” Wiberg added.
Rosa Rakotozafy said: “I was delighted to be elected to the Executive Committee as a representative of Africa, and this is an additional honour. I will work closely with the other Executive Committee members to help build the capacity of WOA and the national Olympians associations.”
In a brief statement, Igor Boraska said: “Having a combination of experience and new perspectives is of great importance for any organisation. I am happy to continue supporting the good work of WOA as we strive to further improve our services for Olympians, enabling them to serve the needs of their communities through the power of sport and Olympic ideals.” (woa/hoo/vk)
