The proposal titled "Categorized Athletes in the Educational System" was presented to the Croatian Rectors Conference members, chaired by Daniel Rukavina, by Romana Caput Jogunica, COC Commission Coordinator, docent at the Faculty of Agronomy, University of Zagreb, and Biserka Vrbek, member of the Commission on the Care for Women in Sport and member of the Commission and COC Assistant Secretary General for Legal Matters, in the presence of State Secretary for Sport Zrinka Kovacevic. The COC Commission, composed of university professors, sports officials, officials from the Ministry of Science, Education and Sport, Croatian Olympic Academy and Croatian Olympians Club, proposed a number of measures according to the Bologne process, regular or e-studies or similar models, to make it possible for top athletes to reconcile studying with demanding conditions of sports career development. The Croatian Rectors Conference supported the proposal and recommended that a public debate be encouraged at all Croatian universities. Among the first ones to put this important educational component on the agenda will be the Rijeka University. The Polytechnics and Colleges Council will discuss this issue at their first session planned to take place in Virovitica on 2 September 2008.
