During the online meeting, participants were introduced to the PORTAL online platform, a comprehensive digital resource designed to support Olympians as they prepare for and navigate the transition from elite sport to life beyond competition. The platform offers a range of resources focusing on dual careers, mental health, employability, life skills, and social inclusion.
Particular attention was given to the role of the Real Life Transition Officers, who will provide personalised guidance and practical support to Olympians throughout their transition process. By combining digital tools with individual support, the PORTAL project aims to offer a holistic approach tailored to the diverse needs of athletes.
The meeting also highlighted the project's broader objective of establishing a sustainable support system for Olympians, particularly those facing fewer opportunities, including athletes without Olympic medals, individuals experiencing physical or mental health challenges, limited educational backgrounds, or reduced employment prospects.
By fostering cooperation between organisations from the fields of sport, education, mental health, and social inclusion, PORTAL promotes a cross-sectoral approach to athlete transition. Through innovative digital solutions and collaborative support networks, the project seeks to empower Olympians, strengthen their employability and life skills, and encourage active participation in society after the end of their sporting careers.
The Croatian Olympic Committee continues to support the implementation of the PORTAL project and its mission of ensuring that Olympians receive the guidance and resources needed to successfully navigate life beyond elite sport.
