The Croatian Olympic Committee was founded by national sports federations from 26 Olympic sports and three sports associations. The provisional recognition of the Croatian Olympic Committee was decided on 17 January 1992 at the IOC headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, and this was agreed by the President Juan Antonio Samaranch and four Vice Presidents of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
With this decision, the International Olympic Committee invited the Croatian Olympic Committee to participate with the selected athletes as early as in 1992 at the Winter Olympics in the French city of Albertville in 1992 and at the (summer) Games of the XXV Olympiad in Barcelona. The Croatian Olympic Committee was admitted to full membership of the World Olympic family on 24 September 1993 at the 101st session of the International Olympic Committee in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
In addition to the 16th presentation of the Croatian Olympic Committee’s Dražen Petrović Award to young female and male athletes under the age of 20 and the greatest sports hopes (under 16 years), held the day before at the Dražen Petrović Museum and Memorial Center, on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the Croatian Olympic Committee, numerous events will be held throughout Our Beautiful Homeland, and Sports Television will mark this important date for the history of Croatian Olympism and sports as a whole with programming content throughout the day.
