Zagreb, November 6, 2019 -The International Olympic Committee’s Olympic Solidarity has positively resolved the Croatian Olympic Committee’s (COC) candidacy for the Winter Olympians Scholarships. A total of ten potential male and female Olympians from 6 sports will participate in the Olympic Scholarships Program for athletes of the Beijing 2022 Olympics. These are: Filip Zubčić, Istok Rodeš, Elias Kolega and Matej Vidović (Alpine Skiing), Dražen Silić and Antonio Zelić (Bobsleigh), Laudelino Antonio Souza-Kordeira (Figure Skating), Lea Jugovac (Snowboard) and "Nordics" Krešimir Crnković (Biathlon) and Vedrana Malec (Cross-Country Skiing).

The monthly amount of scholarship per athlete is 1500 USD and is paid as support for their preparations for qualifications and performance at the XXIV Winter Olympics Beijing 2022. The International Olympic Committee's Olympic Solidarity Scholarships will be paid to the Croatian Olympic Committee four months in advance - 6000 dollars per male/female athlete, starting from the period from November 1, 2019 to February 2022 or until the date of the last possible qualifying competition for athletes who have not yet been able to qualify for the Winter Olympics. The athletes-holders of scholarship will be allowed to use a part of the specified monthly amount of scholarship (1500 USD) for own needs i.e. as allowance, which shall be paid directly to their gyro accounts. The mentioned scholarship portion will be known after the launching of Olympic Solidarity Program i.e. after the payment of first scholarship amounts to the Croatian Olympic Committee's account.

Let us remind you that shortly after the Summer Olympics in Rio in 2016 the Croatian Olympic Committee nominated 12 male and female athletes from the so-called summer sports (IOC’s Olympic Solidarity Program for Tokyo 2020) for the International Olympic Committee Olympic Scholarships. The mentioned Program thus included our individual Olympic medalists from Rio as well as taekwondoka Iva Radoš. (COC/VK)
