Zagreb, 12 April 2021 – Looking towards the Tokyo Olympics (23 July - 8 August 2021), the Croatian Olympic Committee (HOO) marked with a short ceremony – held in the area next to Zagreb's fountains - one hundred days before their opening.
The event was held in accordance with the current epidemiological measures, and was adorned by Japan's ambassador to Croatia, Her Excellency Misako Kaji, and Croatian Olympic Committee Vice President Sanda Čorak and Olympic travelers to Tokyo: experienced rowing Olympian Damir Martin and two debutants - taekwondoka Kristina Tomić and swimmer Franko Grgić.
- We must be aware that it took extraordinary effort, hard work and perseverance, of both athletes and their coaches, clubs and federations, all for the purpose of securing the Olympic performance. We look forward to the Tokyo Olympics, regardless of the unusual circumstances under they are being held. The most important thing is that a whole generation of female and male athletes will get a chance to achieve their sports dream, and we are especially looking forward to the performance of our representatives - noted the Croatian Olympic Committee’s Vice President and President of the Croatian Judo Federation Sanda Čorak.
Light effects above the fountains sent a message of togetherness on the way to achieving Olympic continuity by holding the safe Olympics this summer, with white lanterns released as a symbol of good wishes for the Tokyo Olympics.
- The Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 begin in 100 days. Nevertheless, the organizers and hosts from the local community are working hard to prepare the Olympics. They are held as a symbol of diversity and global unity, as evidence of overcoming the pandemic and rebuilding the country after the earthquake and tsunami. Viewers around the world will participate in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 through IT technologies. Bravo for Croatian Olympians and Paralympians, let's head for the sun! The cities of Tokamachi and Marugame, as well as the entire Japan, warmly await you – stands in the Ambassador Kaji's message.
Rio 2026 Olympic hero Damir Martin came back after injury to elite rowing.
- I'm a big supporter of holding the Tokyo Olympics, even if they're the most extraordinary yet. If they were not maintained, many athletes would have to wait too long an eight-year period without achieving their Olympic ambitions. That is why I am preparing with great optimism for the Tokyo Olympics and believe in their success. I also believe that I will personally be successful in my third Olympic appearance - said rowing Single Damir Martin, also Vice President of the NOC of Croatia.
In addition to participating in the event as ambassadors of the Croatian Olympic Committee’s campaign "Towards the Sun", Olympic debutants Kristina Tomić and Franko Grgić promoted - together with Damir Martin – the Olympic 4F collection for the Tokyo Olympics. Praising the Olympic collection, they highlighted its airiness and elasticity.
Croatian Olympians will perform in Tokyo in the dynamic equipment of the Polish company 4F, with distinctive red and white squares of various sizes. Japanese symbolism was also taken into account, such as the motif of the circle (in this case - the rising sun) on zippers and size labels. Due to the Tokyo climate, reduced weight fabrics were used, with a well thought-out design and color choice and complementarity of the women's and men's collections.
- When it comes to athletes' performances at the Olympic Games, we are aware of the importance of the smallest details. For this reason, we focused on lightweight materials with high breathability, which ensures great comfort when used. When designing and creating a collection, we did not forget to take into account the issue of sustainability, hence the high percentage of recycled materials of mainly European production in the collection - explained the Chief Designer of the Olympic collection Wojciech Harus.
Marking "100 Days to Tokyo", the Croatian Olympic Committee organized a photo shoot of Olympians in the Zagreb Fire Brigade, as a link between the exceptional exploits of firefighters during last year's earthquake in Zagreb and national sports heroes. On this occasion, more than 20 Olympians premiered a new Olympic collection for Tokyo and all of them rated it very high quality and comfortable to wear.
One hundred days before Tokyo. Croatia has 40 evident Olympic candidates (from 11 sports), of which 28 with individual standards and 12 with water polo team standard. Another dozen individual standards are expected (cycling, boxing, judo, karate, archery, tennis...) and possibly another team – the basketball team. The optimistic assessment ranges around 65 female and male athletes who will travel in the new Olympic 4F collection to the Tokyo Olympics - Together towards the Sun. (COC)
