Zagreb, 17 January 2021 - On this day 29 years ago, the Croatian Olympic Committee (HOO) was admitted to the International Olympic Family. This happened only two days after the international recognition of the Republic of Croatia, when the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) provisionally recognized the NOC of Croatia, thus allowing the Croatian athletes, to participate – in the very same year - at the Winter Olympics in Albertville and at the Summer Olympics in Barcelona.

The performance at the Albertville Olympics (8th to 23rd February 1992), just three weeks after the Croatian Olympic Committee’s provisional recognition, was also the first, historic participation of Croatian athletes under their own flag at the greatest multi-sport event of modern times. Even more impressive was the performance of Croatian Olympians at the Summer Olympics in 1992 in Barcelona, where our athletes have won the first Olympic medals in individual and team competition.

Congratulations to all female and male athletes, especially all the Olympians, coaches, members of professional staff, sports officials and employees, first ambassadors of Croatian sport, all national sports federations, county sports communities and other Croatian Olympic Committee’s member associations, as well as sponsors and business partners of the NOC of Croatia on 17 January - the Day of International Recognition of the Croatian Olympic Committee!
