Zagreb, July 31, 2019 - The Japanese Ambassador to Croatia, Her Excellency Misako Kaji presented on Monday to the Croatian diplomat, doctor and writer Drago Štambuk, the State Medal of her homeland. In the premises of the Japanese Embassy at Zagreb’s Zrinjevac, the former Croatian Ambassador to Japan and South Korea was presented the Medal of the Rising Sun with a golden and silver star, the gift of the Japanese government. The reason is very simple - for exceptional merits in strengthening bilateral intergovernmental ties in the field of economy, culture, sports...
In addition to bringing the Japanese closer to Croatia, especially in the tourism segment, during his ambassador’s mandate in Japan (from 2005 to 2010) Štambuk also constructed the House of Japanese-Croatian friendship in Tokamachi, according to the conceptual solutions of architects Vinko Penezić and Krešimir Rogina. The stamp of that time and built bridges of friendship with the Japanese remained to this day, so Croatian athletes from six sports will be preparing for the Tokyo Olympics in Tokomachi and Kagawa.
The leading Croatian Olympic Committee (HOO) officials - President Zlatko Mateša and Secretary General Josip Čop congratulated Drago Štambuk on the valuable award:
We cordially congratulate to an exceptional diplomat and a great friend on the high recognition of the Japanese government which, among other things, contains woven merits for popularizing Croatian sports in the friendly Japan. We wish you lot of success in new diplomatic and other business challenges and above all good health!
