Zagreb, November 5, 2018 - The Romanian delegation, led by the Custodian of the Romanian Crown, Her Majesty Princess Margareta and her husband, His Royal Highness Prince Radu, attended the reception at the Croatian Olympic Committee (COC), held on Monday, November 5, 2018. In conversation with the President of the Croatian Olympic Committee, Zlatko Mateša, the topics on the organization and status of sports in the two countries were prevalent, as well as on the cooperation of the two National Olympic Committees, which was specified in the Contract closed in 2009.
Her Majesty Princess Margareta expressed her admiration for the successes of Croatian sports, emphasized by the Head of the COC during the conversation, in particular by highlighting 10 medals won two years ago at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Concerning the youth involvement in sports, His Royal Highness Prince Radu spoke about the participation of Romanian young female and male athletes in the international multidisciplinary project of Gymnasiade and he listened with great attention to Croatia's experiences - Mateša's presentation on mass inclusion of the youngest in sports through the Croatian Olympic Committee’s Olympics Festival of Kindergartens.
Among many links between the Croatian and Romanian sports one also mentioned once quite successful Romanian tennis player Ion Tiriac, who later became a manager that took care of Goran Ivanišević's career as well. Mateša noted that this month Croatia will face the finals of the Davis Cup with France, which has become a "nightmare" for us, after the defeats in handball and football. The guests from Romania wished Croatia a successful "rematch" at tennis courts in Lille.
Croatian-Romanian cooperation in the field of sports can be further developed and therefore both sides will be engaged to attain it.
Accompanied by Her Majesty Princess Margareta and His Royal Highness Prince Radu, there was also Sarca Sebastian Traian, the Consultant to the Custodian of the Crown, his Excellency Constantin – Mihail Gregorie, Romanian Ambassador to Croatia and Narcis Seiceanu, Minister-Consultant at the same Embassy. Besides the Secretary General of the Croatian Olympic Committee, Josip Čop, the Honorary Romanian Consul in the Republic of Croatia Dragutin Kamenski and Head of the Croatian Olympic Committee’s International Relations Commission Ljiljana Ujlaki Šubić hosted the reception at the Croatian Olympic Committee.
