Stockholm/Zagreb, March 5, 2015.- European Non-Governmental Sports Organisation (ENGSO), in cooperation with numerous partners and members including the Croatian Olympic Committee, launched in early 2015 the ENGSO SCORE project, whose task is to change the assessment and impact of female coaches in sports.


Namely, both European and Croatian sports practice show that the number of female trainers among sports coaches is almost negligible and that it should be changed as soon as possible. The fact that among 78 coaches who are on the list of the COC's 2015 development co-financing program, there are only five women, proves that. ENGSO SCORE project, supported by the EU program Erasmus +, will last two years, and its key task will be to find solutions and tools to change the status of gender equality among coaches at all levels.


The results should be manifested not only in number of female coaches in sports, but also in the possibilities of their education, promotion and acquisition of coaching knowledge and skills. The partners of ENGSO (whose first meeting was held in Stockholm on February 16th and 17th, in the presence of the representatives of nongovernmental sports and other organizations) are: Finnish Coaches Association, Sport Coach UK, International Council of Coaching Excellence (ICCE), European Observatoire of Sport and Employment (EOSE), Sport and Citizenship, European University Sports Association (EUSA), German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), Swedish Sports Confederation (RF), Croatian Olympic Committee, Lithuanian Union of sports Federations (LUSF), Cyprus Sports Organisation (CSO) and Portugal Sports Confederation (CDP). Gordana Borko, Manager of development programs, Secretary of the COC's women in sports and Coordinator of this project in Croatia, participated in the work of ENGSO SCORE on behalf of the Croatian Olympic Committee.(coc/rj)
