Zagreb, 28 August 2020 - Two women from Croatia won the annual awards of the European Fair Play Movement (EFPPM. Trophy crossbow shooter Valentina Pereglin and honored sports official Nataša Muždalo were among the ten selected individuals and associations from the Old Continent.

Pereglin earned her European Fair Play Diploma in August last year with an unusual gesture at the World Crossbow Championships in Russia. Aware that she was awarded an undeserved silver medal in Crossbow 50 M (due to the judge's oversight in scoring) and guided by sports and human fairness, she immediately handed over the silver medal to her third-placed rival from Germany. After that act, she did not even win a bronze medal, but finished fourth in the world rankings. However, she was soon awarded the International Crossbow Federation’s European Fair Play Diploma, and at the end of 2019 - at the Croatian Olympic Committee's celebration of the Great Day of Croatian Sports - she was awarded the annual COC’s Fair Play Award.

The Croatian Fair Play Committee (HFPC) also nominated Valentina Pereglin for the European award, and the Committee composed of: Katarina Raczova (Slovakia), Biserka Vrbek (Croatia), Baiba Veisa (Latvia) and Kveta Peckova (Czech Republic), chaired by the legendary Slovenian gymnast, Olympian Miroslav Cerar, recognized her as one of the heroines of fair play in the past period.

The same committee decided to present the European Fair Play Movement’s award Spirit of Fair Play to Nataša Muždalo. The Head of the Service for Sports Standards at the Central State Office for Sports distinguished herself through the activities of the Croatian Fair Play Committee in the creation and practical application of numerous promotional materials on the topic of fair play in sports, but also in everyday life. Among them, a special place is taken by the published series of etiquette – first for preschoolers and students of all ages, followed by this year’s Etiquette of Behavior in Sports for coaches, enriched in terms of content by the Football Head Coach Zlatko Dalić. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, EFPM awards are unlikely to be presented at its traditional annual ceremony, but they will be - most probably - presented to national fair play committees who will then present them to the laureates. (COC/VK)
