Zagreb, March 18th, 2020 - Croatia will have a representative in karate at the Tokyo Olympics. This historic performance was taken care of by our best karateka Ivan Kvesić, who ensured a place in the elite group (according to the rankings of the World Karate Federation) in the Olympic category -75 kg after the first round of the qualification procedure.
Kvesić drew attention to his huge potential by winning the World Champion title in the Semi-lightweight category (-84 kg) at the World Championships in Madrid in 2018, and in the same year he won European silver at the European Championships in Novi Sad. The 23-year-old KK Hercegovina member from Zagreb secured direct appearance at the Tokyo Olympics mostls owing to the last years gold medal, won at the European Games in Minsk.
Happy about the triumph and the large amount of points scored in Minsk, important for the trip to Tokyo, Kvesić stated:- Now, having ensureda 95% appearance in Tokyo, I just need to maintain that status in the competitions that follow.With very good results towards the end of 2019 and early 2020, Ivan Kvesić confirmed his belonging to the world elite, thus becoming the 27th Croatian Olympian for Tokyo. The rest of our karate candidates for performance at theOlympics are still in the qualifying tournament in Paris, due in June. (COC/vk)
