Zagreb, 15 September 2020 - Representatives of the Croatian Table Tennis Federation (HSTS) and the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Croatia closed through video conference one-year continuation of the Chinese-Croatian sports cooperation, mediated by the President of the Croatian Olympic Committee (HOO) Zlatko Mateša.
The video conference was held in the premises of the Croatian Olympic Committee, and in addition to Mateša, it was attended by the HSTS President Zlatko Pospiš, HSTS Director Renato Čengić, Head of the Sports System Support Department at the Croatian Ministry of Tourism and Sports Martina Jeričević and former Croatian Table Tennis Head Coach Tian Yuan, still an active player and coach.
The Head of HSTS Pospiš thanked the Chinese Embassy for the financial and expert sports assistance, reminding that last year four Chinese table tennis coaches visited Croatia and very much popularized that sport in many parts of our beautiful homeland.
The President of the Croatian Olympic Committee Zlatko Mateša praised this act of cooperation with China, emphasizing that it lasts for fifteen years and reached such a level that Chinese handball players, with Croatian support, participate in the SEHA League. He also praised the passing of table tennis knowledge from China to Croatia as extremely valuable.
The continuation of the Chinese-Croatian sports cooperation was also welcomed by the Head of the Sports System Support Department at the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Croatia Martina Jeričević, whose Ministry opens the possibility to strengthen cooperation with China in tourism as well.
On the other side of the video link was the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Croatia, Her Excellency Xe Erven, who pointed out the excellent cooperation between China and Croatia in almost all areas of social activity, including sports. She did not hide her thrill with the successes of Croatian sports, and she especially emphasized football and tennis players and praised the cooperation with Croatia in handball, water polo, gymnastics...
- What always impressed us, but also what many of my compatriots ask me, is: how can a country of only four million people have such top results at world competitions and practically in all sports - said the Chinese ambassador.
Let us remind you, the Memorandum on Chinese-Croatian Sports Cooperation from 2018 included cooperation between national table tennis federations, the inclusion of top athletes in joint training, exchange of expert sports officials, cooperation in the field of training the athletes, encouraging the mobility and exchange of students involved in sports… The new Agreement is an announcement of continued cooperation on the same and even broader grounds, and for the time being it will be implemented as much as epidemiological measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic allow the same.
