Zagreb, 20 December 2020 - By winning bronze at the European Women’s Handball Championship in Denmark (25-19 victory over the Danish National Team), the Croatian female handball players achieved the greatest success in the history of our women's handball.

On their way to bronze, the Head Coach Nenad Šoštarić’s selectees recorded six victories (over Hungary, the Netherlands, Serbia, Romania, Germany and – finally – Denmark), and recorded only defeats against the finalists Norway and France. However, by entering the semifinals, the great Croatian female athletes already secured their direct performance at the World Championship 2021.

The Croatian Olympic Committee’s (HOO) President Zlatko Mateša and Secretary General Josip Čop congratulated the Croatian female handball players, Head Coach Nenad Šoštarić and his professional staff for their fantastic success - winning a bronze medal at the European Championship in Denmark:

Our dear female handball players,

By winning the first medal in Croatian female handball at major competitions, you entered the history. Besides the excellent performance at the European Championship and confirming the status of sport heroines, you also ended the handball’s year 2020 – started with our “cowboys’” European silver – with great success. Thank you for the wonderful moments you shared with all Croatian sports fans in Our Beautiful Homeland and abroad. Believing that this is just the beginning of the top handball generation’s trophy series, we warmly congratulate you on our own behalf and on behalf of the entire Croatian Olympic Family!
