Chemnitz, July 22, 2018 - The Croatian National Basketball Team U20 won a silver medal at the European Championships in the German city of Chemnitz after being defeated by Israel in the finals (66-80).

Young athletes, selected by Damir Rajković, have already secured a historic medal in the U20 category by entering the finals. So far, they positioned fourth three times. Success has an additional value when it is known that our young basketball players played last year in the European Basketball B league. By entering the finals of B division, the won the performance at this European Championships in Germany, where they defeated an entire row of opponents: France (68-56), Ukraine (93-78), Spain (85-70), Great Britain (93-62), Italy (79-68) and Germany in the semifinals (69-61).

The Israelis were leading for a large part of the game, and the young Croats missed the opportunity for equalization and reverse situation at the beginning of the third quarter (at score 45-47). European silver represents a brilliant success of our U20 basketball team and definitely brings hope that with Matko Kalajžić, Josip Barnjak, Toni Nakić, Karlo Uljarević and their teammates a new rise of Croatian basketball is entering the international stage.
Congratulations! (coc/vk)
