Zagreb, 6 March 2021 - After 27 years, a medal from the European Indoor Championships came to Croatia. With a shot of 21.31 meters, the Croatian shot putter and evident Tokyo Summer Olympics candidate Filip Mihaljević won a bronze medal at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Toruń (Poland).

Mihaljević “slam-dunked” his excellent performance with a few more throws of more than 21 meters, keeping himself in the medalist zone from the beginning to the end of the Shot-Put series. Gold went to Czech Tomáš Staněk (21.62m) and silver to the Defending Champion Poland's Michał Haratyk (21.47m).

With the bronze won in Poland, the Croatian record holder in Shot Put became the second Croatian athletes with a medal from the European Indoor Championships (the runner Branko Zorko won bronze in 1500m in 1992 and silver in 1994).

The Croatian Olympic Committee (HOO) congratulates Filip Mihaljević on winning bronze at the European Athletics Indoor Championships and wishes him the winning-podium-worthy-results at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo! (NOC of Croatia/VK)
