Tokyo, 26 July 2021 - Croatian Taekwondoka Toni Kanaet won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics in the category -80kg. It is the first Taekwondo Olympic medal for Croatia in the men's competition.

Kanaet overpowered Burkina Faso representative Faysal Sawadago in the repechage early in the third round due to a too big difference in points. At the time of interruption, Kanaet was leading with 30-10. He then won the bronze in the match against Uzbekistan's Nikita Rafalovich, defeating the latter with 24-18.
In the first half of the competition, Kanaet defeated Spain's Raul Martinez Garcia with 21-15 and then lost to later finalist Maksim Khramchev with interruption after the second round. By entering the finals, his second opponent "pulled" him towards the repechage and fight for the bronze medal.
In two repechages, member of the Split taekwondo club TK Marjan proved that he is worthy of the Olympic podium.

The Croatian Olympic Committee (NOC of Croatia) congratulates Toni Kanaet and his coach on winning the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
