Zagreb, 11 February 2021 - President of the Croatian Olympic Committee (HOO) Zlatko Mateša organized at the premises of the National Olympic Association the reception for the most experienced active Croatian ambassador Dr. Drago Štambuk. Although he is currently Ambassador to Iran, Dr. Štambuk left an indelible mark in Japan during his ambassadorial work from 2005 to 2010, and in the small town of Tokamachi his idea of a symbolic connection between two nations - the House of Japanese-Croatian Friendship - was realized.
Since holding of Tokyo Olympics is increasingly certain and sports cooperation with the host ahead of the Olympics is mostly known (acclimatization of our Olympians from several sports in Tokamachi), the other forms of cooperation were discussed. One of them is literary and Dr. Štambuk, as an established poet, and his companion at this meeting - secretary of the Association of Croatian Writers Marko Gregur, accepted with great pleasure Mateša's proposal to organize a haiku poetry evening first in Zagreb and then in Tokamachi. This should be preceded by a contest with haiku poems thematically associated with Tokyo Olympics, and it would be organized by the NOC of Croatia and the Association of Croatian Writers.
The meeting was accompanied by the Head of the Croatian Olympic Committee’s International Cooperation Department Ljiljana Ujlaki Šubić. Of course, everything agreed at this meeting will be difficult to realize in the current pandemic situation, but with expressed hope that better days are coming. (NOC of Croatia/VK)
