Tarragona, June 28, 2018 - Although the taekwondokas Tomić and Glasnović cheered us up with silver and bronze in the eve of the day, the seventh – and the most successful – day of Croatian female and male athletes competing at the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona – was, as expected, in expectation of Sandra Perković’s gold in Discus Throw.

For new gold in Sandra’s collection, the first throw of 66,46 meters was enough. Portuguese Ca placed second with 60.05 and Greek Anagnostopoulou the 3rd with 58.85 meters. Friday brings the final performances of Martin Marković in Discus Throw and Andrea Ivančević and Ivan Lončarek in 100m Hurdles.

Boxer Leo Cvetković (category up to 81kg) was defeated in the Quarterfinals by the Algerian Mohamed Houmri, apparently with a convincing 5-0, but each round was scored (by all five judges) with 10-9. On Friday, Toni Filipi is fighting for the Finals against the European Champion, the French Ombe Biangola. Let's remember, Filipa has a bronze medal ensured.

Marino Miličević was the second in fight for Semifinals in Men’s Lyonnaise – Progression Throw and on Friday he will fight against the Slovene Borčnik, while in the evening there might be even a fight for medals. Carrolina Bajrić took the fifth place, also in Lyonnaise – Progression Throw, while Lyonnaise – Precision Throw starts on Friday.

Golfer Marko Stepinac finished his performance at the Mediterranean Games by retaining the 19th place.

The success of the female volleyball team (victory over Portugal 3-1 in Quarterfinals) was not followed by the Beach Volleyball players Josip Pribanić and Marin Jerčić. In a tense match, they were defeated by the Cyprus pair Apostolou, Knežević with 1-2 in sets (17-21, 22-20, 18-20). At 14-13 in the third set our "beach players" missed the set-ball. French Gauthier and Thiercy are waiting for them within the Group C on Friday. The basketball players in the 3x3 version were defeated at play-off start in the Group (B). The Tunisians were better with 12-7. On Friday they will play against the Italians...

The handball Friday in Tarragona brings a Semifinals "atreat" - a clash of young Croatian handball players with the Spaniards.

Both of our rowers remained in the competition for medals. In Men’s Lightweight Single Sculls Luka Radonić won a direct appearance in the Semifinals (Friday) by winning in his qualifying group, while Josipa Jurkovic in Women’s Single Sculls was successful as well. With second place in the knock-out group she entered directly the Saturday's Finals due to the small number of registered female rowers.

After – in terms of results - the most successful day at the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona (gold, silver and bronze), Croatia currently has nine medals - two gold, four silver and three bronze medals. (COC/vk)
