Tarragona, 1 July 2018 – A ten-day competition of female and male athletes from 26, mostly Mediterranean countries from three continents, ended with the Closing Ceremony of the XVIII Mediterranean Games at the Nou Estadi del Gimnàstic Stadium in Tarragona.

 

The President of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games, Amar Addadi, Mayor of Tarragona and President of the Organizing Committee of Mediterranean Games 2018, Josep Fèlix Ballesteros, and President of the Spanish Olympic Committee Alejandro Blanco, spoke at the Ceremony, attended as well by Noureddine Boukhatem, Mayor of Orana, the Algerian town that will organize the XIX Mediterranean Games, three years after Tarragona. At the end of the Ceremony, the flag of the Organizing Committee of Mediterranean Games was lowered at the Stadium in Tarragona and given to the Algerian representatives who are already working on the preparation and organization of the next Games.
Catalan musicians adorned the festive event with attractive performances and all culminated with great fireworks as well as at the opening of the Games.

 

At the Mediterranean Games’ Closing Ceremony in Tarragona, the Croatian flag was carried by our golden bowlers - Nives Jelovica and Pero Ćubela. They built-in their excellent performances and well-deserved medals in the Lyonnaise – Precision Throw into a total of 17 (9 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze) Croatian medals. The most successful were the Italians with 156 medals, the Spanish with 122, French 99, Turks 95, etc.
As mentioned, the next Mediterranean Games are scheduled for 2021 in Algerian city of Oran. (COC/vk)
