Buenos Aires, October 11, 2018 - After bronze medal in Singles’ competition up to 44 kg, judoka Ana Viktorija Puljiz won a gold medal in the mixed team competition at the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires. As a member of the Beijing team Puljiz gave, with three victories in her category, a major contribution to the team’s triumph.

Her winning ippones were well remembered by Houda Faissal Abdourahman of Djibouti, followed by Perez Sole from Spain and Bhutan’s Wangmo, and it’s a pity that she could not endure in the same rhythm until the end. In the final match against India’s Thangjam, which stopped her in the semifinals of individual competition, wazari was decisive for opponent’s victory. Fortunately, this did not affect the overall victory of the Beijing team, which was more successful than the Athens team by scoring 4-3.

On the winning pedestal Puljiz ended with Belarus Kolasau, Italian Toniolo, Uzbekistani Nazarov, Mexican Pecha, Venezuelan Paez and Taiwan’s Liu.
Mixed team competition with three male and female contestants from different categories and countries is a new Olympic discipline, pretty accomplished through the previous two editions of the Youth Olympics and with debut at the “Big Games” in Tokyo in 2020.

Otherwise, the fifth day of competition at the Youth Olympics brought our Beach Handball representatives an extremely tough rival. The male handball players defeated Hungary with 2-0, but then Spain defeated them with 2-0 as well, while the female handball players had the first unsuccessful day at the tournament. In the matches against Argentina and Holland, they scored two defeats with 1-2. In the eve of the fight for medals and ranking, our representatives will fight against Paraguay (female team) and Thailand (male team).

The sailor Palma Čargo placed 15th after the 12th race, with an objection for infringement of the rules of competition which could affect the ranking. In IKA Twin Tip Racing, Martin Dolenc placed eighth in the overall ranking. Our only representative in Shooting, Marijana Matea Štrbac, entered - in Mixed Pairs with Belarus Kurdzi - the quarterfinals in Air Pistol 10 m, scheduled for Friday (COC/vk).
