Buenos Aires, October 6, 2018 – The third Youth Olympic Games (YOG) opened in Buenos Aires with a spectacular ceremony held in the city center, at the foot of the National Symbol of Obelisk. At these Games, there will be 36 Croatian female and male athletes defending the colors of Croatia.

Premiere in Olympic history, the Opening Ceremony Festival was held outside the stadium, and equally - for the first time in the history of Olympism – there will be equal number of female and male athletes participating at the Games under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee - 2006 from 206 countries around the world. In 12 competitive days, there will be 4012 young male and female Olympians competing at the Youth Olympics in 241 competitions in 32 sports disciplines.
The Youth Olympic Games are a festival of sports competition, friendship, fun and good will. Its fundamental message is unity, so there was no classical Olympic teams’ parade at the Opening Ceremony, but only the selected flag bearers from all the countries walked through the central stage.

At the presentation of Croatia, the national tricolor flag was borne by Lucija Domić, a 17-year-old teakwondoka from Split.
"I was very excited, for me it was a great honor and I can say that I am very proud as bearer of the Croatian flag at my first Olympic Games", said Lucija Domić.
The honorary member of the IOC from Croatia Antun Vrdoljak and the head of the Croatian Olympic Committee Zlatko Mateša, together with Thomas Bach, the President of the International Olympic Committee and numerous Olympic officials from all over the world, the Opening Ceremony of the Games were also present.
Sunday is also the first day of competition at the Youth Olympics, and our hopes will perform at the venues in six sports disciplines - judo, sailing, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and rowing. (COC/vk)
