Minsk, June 26, 2019 - Croatian table tennis player Tomislav Pucar won a bronze medal at the second European Games in Minsk (June 21-30) and reached – with the third place in individual competition – the Olympic standard for Tokyo 2020. After being beaten in semifinals by the current European Champion, Germany’s Timo Boll,, with 1-4 (4-11, 9-11, 5-11, 12-10, 4-11), our table tennis player once again superbly presented himself in the fight for bronze by beating the Ukrainian of Chinese origin Lei Kou with 4-1 (11-2, 9-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-2).

Marko Milun secured the second bronze medal in Boxing at the European Games by defeating the Georgian Mikheil Bakhtidze in Heavyweight (+91 kg), after interruption of the match at the end of the second round. Since both competitors had arcade injuries due to collision of heads (the Georgian is known for it), the match was interrupted and the count of earned points was accessed. All five judges ruled in Milun's favor (5-0). Despite the injury and sutures, Milun will be ready for the semifinal match with Ukrainian Viktor Vykhryst on Friday (around 5 p.m.). In late evening period (approx. 10.15 p.m.), heavyweight boxer Toni Filipi will fight for the finals with the Russian Muslim Gadzhimagomedov.

With the second victory in Women’s Singles, the badminton player Maja Pavlinić concluded her appearance in group stage of the competition. By beating the Belarusian Cherniavskaya with 21-18 and 21-11, she entered the Knockout phase’s Round of 16. Zvonimir Đurkinjak did not enter the Round of 16 of the finals, but he finished his performance in Men’s Singles by beating the Belgium's Maxim Moreels with 26-24, 19-21 and 21-18.

Our shooting stars were also quite active. The evident Olympian for Tokyo, Petar Gorša, was close to the medal in 50 M Air Rifle 3 Positions. He entered the finals as seventh and finished the final competition in the fifth place. Snježana Pejčić and Marta Zeljković will perform on Thursday in 50 M Air Rifle Three Positions. Vlatka Pervan missed three point to enter the finals of 25 M Air Pistol. She finished the qualifying round by sharing the 11th place.  The kayaker Antun Novaković took sixth place (in total 15th at the European Games) in the B finals of Men’s K-1 1000 M and the kayaker Anamaria Govorčinović failed to reach the finals of Women’s K-1 200 M. Although she managed to pass from the qualifying round to the semifinals, by taking the 9th place in the group she finished her further performance in this discipline. On Thursday Govorčinović will perform in B finals of Women’s K-1 500 M. Our only canoeist at the European Games Vanesa Tot took the fifth place and passed from the qualifying round to the semifinals in Women’s C-1 200 M, but then she had bad luck -  after taking the 4th place in semifinals, she remained the first below the line for the finals. (CNOC/VK)
