Zagreb, 31 July 2020 - On Friday, the Minister of Tourism and Sports Nikolina Brnjac met with the leaders of the umbrella sports associations and on that occasion announced that merger of tourism and sports into one ministry would further strengthen the sports sector. The meeting with Minister Brnjac was attended by: President of the Croatian Olympic Committee (COC) Zlatko Mateša, President and Secretary of the Croatian Paralympic Committee (HPO) Ratko Kovačić and Ticijan Komparić, President of the Croatian Academic Sports Association Zrinko Čustonja, President and Secretary of the Croatian School Sports Federation Nikica Perković and Ivan Dujić and President and Honorary President of the Croatian Deaf Sports Association Oliver and Mario Lušić.

- I am honored to have become a part of this sports team and I believe that together we will make additional moves. All the proposals we received from the sports sector representatives are needed and more than welcome, in order for us to not only better compare the needs of sports with the opportunities offered to us through the new EU Recovery Instrument, but also to direct it through the EU multiannual financial framework for the period 2021 - 2027 - said Brnjac.
The importance of using EU funds for the field of sports was especially emphasized by the President of the Croatian Olympic Committee Zlatko Mateša, who added that he sees great opportunities for improving this segment in merging of sports and tourism department.
- This synergy opens many opportunities for joint action, and some of them are the extension of tourist season, the organization of various joint activities and major sports events - said Mateša, acknowledging that these are the reasons why he personally advocated merging the two departments.
Minister Brnjac pointed out that this is only the first in a series of meetings with the sports sector and that she expects further close cooperation in order to give the sports department a new momentum through joint efforts. (Croatian News Agency HINA/COC/VK)
