Baku, July 23, 2019 -Young Croatian swimmer Franko Grgić won the second gold medal at the XV European Youth Summer Olympic Festival (EYOF) in just two days. The European Youth Summer Olympic Festival (EYOF), held from July 21st to 27th in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku. After yesterday's triumph at 400 meters, the Split’s swimming gem convincingly celebrated in 1500 meters Freestyle as well, breaking for as many as 20 seconds the EYOF record. So far it was 15:24.02, and from now on, with the name of the record holder Franko Grgić stands the time 15:04.75. The second was the Hungarian David Bethlehem (15:15.60), and the third German Silas Beth (15:20.58).


On the third day of contesting, many other Croatian representatives performed. Athlete Lukas Cik took the 11th place in the Long Jump finals, while Vitali Favorov was 13th in Javelin Throw. Rahela Leščak failed to enter the finals of the 400 m Hurdles. Tennis pair Noah Vukadin and Patrik Jurina were defeated by the Czech William, Barton 6-4, 0-6, 9-11, and our young handball players  were defeated by the French with a narrow result (26-27). None of the Croatian gymnasts (Borna Matić, Liam Rabić, Mateo Žugec) didn't enter the Individual All-Around finals. Swimmer Klara Bošnjak was 19th in the qualifying race of discipline 400 m Freestyle. Cyclist Ivan Okmažić performed in Individual Time Trial and took the 84th place. Wrestling competitions at EYOF were also completed, in which our three female and two male representatives were not competitive enough to win medals. Therefore, with more optimism, we await judo that is foreseen to start on Wednesday.


Thanks exclusively to Franko Grgić, Croatia is currently in the high eighth place in the medal-winning ranking, and the EYOF is attended by young male and female from 50 European countries, members of the European Olympic Committees association.
