Baku, July 25, 2019 – Croatian judoka Katarina Krišto won a silver medal in the category -63 kg at the European Youth Summer Olympic Festival (EYOF), held in Baku (Azerbaijan) from July 21st to 27th. This is the second Croatian judoka’s medal, a day after Ana Viktorija Puljiz won a gold medal. In the round of 8 Krišto was better than the Hungarian Nikolett Nyiri, having her beaten by ippon, as well as she did in the quarterfinals with the Polish Martyna Glubiak and in the semifinals with the Ukrainian Julia Kurchenko. Ippon (after 42 seconds of the fight) was decisive in the final fight as well, but in favor of the overall winner, the Dutch Joanne van Lieshout.
Bronze medals ended around the necks of the Spanish Laura Vazquez Fernandez and the aforementioned Ukrainian.
- I am happy with the won silver medal at EYOF and I would like to use this opportunity to thank everyone for their support – says a short message from Katarina Krišto, member of the Kaštela’s club JK Dalmacijacement.
On the fifth day of contesting at EYOF, the cyclist Ivan Okmažić achieved an exceptionally valuable result in the 75 km road race. He took the 26th place in the competition of 91 competitors. If we add that he was also one of the youngest cyclists in that group, it boosts his venture and opens optimism for the future. The second Croatian judoka hope, Dominik Rožić, was defeated already in the round of 16. The French Tama was better than him... The foreseen performances on Friday are those of Klara Bošnjak (800 m) and handball players in semi-finals with Denmark, as well as basketball players in a comforting game with Lithuania for 5th to 8th place in the ranking.
With three gold and one silver medal, Croatia is still in a great eighth place in the medal-winning-countries’ ranking.
