The 9th Forum and the 5th General assembly of the European Olympic Committee’s (EOC) Athletes' Commission was held in Monte Carlo on 18th - 20th October 2017. At the session, a new leadership was elected to run the Athlete's Commission for the next four years, headed by the Chairman, well-known discus thrower Estonian Gerd Canter, with Hungary's Balazs Baji, a 110 meters hurdler as his Deputy and the Irish hockey player David Harte as Secretary.

Other members of the Executive Committee are Latvian athlete Gunta Latiseva-Cudare, Italian diver Tania Cagnotto, Turkish basketball player Nevriye Yilmaz, Ukrainian sabre fencer Olga Kharlan, Norwegian cross-country skier Eldar Rønning and Slovakian biathlete Jana Daubnerova.

One of the current Olympic movement guidelines is strengthening support to the athletes included in the Olympic program by 2020 and therefore the International Olympic Committee’s Olympic Solidarity has also supported this gathering of European athletes in Monaco. Each country – EOC member had the opportunity to send two representatives from National Athletes' Commissions, and Croatia has used this right half-way. Marija Vrajić, the Marathon Olympian from Rio de Janeiro, represented our athletes in Monte Carlo.

One of the conclusions of the Forum related to the hierarchical functionality: in order to enable all NOC’s Athletes’ Commissions achieving the set goals and to ensure the same level of support for male and female athletes on all five continents, a more concrete link between the IOC's Athletes' Commissions and continental associations should be established. At the Assembly meeting of athletes from the European Olympic Committees, the completion of audit of the European Olympic Committees’ Athletes’ Commission – aimed at assessing their current level of implementation of the IOC guidelines - was announced.
