Wrestling was first introduced at the Olympic Games in Athens in 1896.

Petar Milan Kokotović was the first Croatian athlete who has competed in wrestling at the Olympic Games. He competed for the Austrian team at the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912, while Miroslav Metzner-Fritz and Franjo Palković were competing for the Yugoslav team at the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928.

At the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972, the Croatian athletes – winners of Olympic medals were Josip Čorak – silver medal and Milan Nenadić – bronze medal.

At the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 1984, Vlado Lisjak has won a gold medal.
