Zagreb, September 22, 2014. (Hina) - Olympic scholarship for preparation and performance at the Games of the XXXI. Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 were awarded today to 14 Croatian athletes.

The agreements on Olympic scholarships were awarded to the sailors Tina Mihelić, Tonči Stipanović, Šime Fantela and Igor Marenić, rowers: Valent and Martin Sinković, Damir Martin and David Šain, taekwondo: Iva Radoš and Ana Lucija Zaninović, shooters: Snježana Pejčić and Giovani Cernogoraz and gymnast Filip Ude.
"This is already a standard procedure in the Croatian Olympic Committee, which is - in cooperation with the IOC's Olympic Solidarity Fund and national sports federations - trying to help our athletes in preparations for performance at the most important sports event - the Olympic Games that will be held in two years in Brazil", said the Croatian Olympic Committee's Secretary General Josip Čop on the occasion of signing of the agreements.

According to his statement, in proposing the candidates the Croatian Olympic Committee took into account the so far achieved results, and the fact that it was all well-planned is confirmed by several already acquired qualifications for performance at the Olympics in Rio.

"The scholarship will be awarded, from September 1 until the Games in Rio, to all the athletes who have signed the agreements, because it is granted with the aim of achieving the best possible results at the Olympics, and I have no doubt that all the signatories will acquire the right to participate in Rio", said Čop, stating that the Croatian Olympic Committee will pay every athletes the monthly amount of 500 USD in equivalent in Kuna.

Besides the athletes and the Secretary General of the Croatian Olympic Committee, the agreements on scholarship were also signed by the representatives of national sports federations (whose members are the awarded athletes), and the only athlete who was not present at the today's ceremony in Zagreb's hotel Panorama was the gymnast Filip Ude.
