Zagreb, March 9, 2017 – On March 9, the President of the Croatian Olympic Committee (HOO) Zlatko Mateša, President of the Croatian Athletics Federation (HAS) Ivan Veštić and Mayor of the City of Vukovar Ivan Penava presented the project of construction of the athletic stadium in Vukovar at the Croatian Olympic Committee’s headquarters.
In September 2017, at the City Stadium of the Croatian Football Club (FC) Vukovar '91, an athletic racecourse with six tracks and supporting athletic facilities – field for javelin throw, a circular field for shot put, discus and hammer throw, runway for long jump, triple jump, high jump and pole vault shall be constructed. Stands and side rooms, dressing rooms, storage, social rooms and everything else required for the functioning of a sports facility shall be made as well. And so, after September 30, 2017 the City of Vukovar will be richer for another sports facility after the swimming pool that was put in service these days to the delight of sports or other public.
The initiative launched by the City of Vukovar and the Croatian Athletic Federation, joined by the Croatian Olympic Committee, will cost about 2.5 million Kuna. The City of Vukovar will provide 1.5 million Kuna, while the rest was donated by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) (100,000 U.S. dollars), the International Athletics Foundation (60,000 U.S. dollars) and the International Olympic Committee (150,000 U.S. dollars).
