Zagreb, July 11, 2016 - President of the Croatian Olympic Committee (COC), Zlatko Mateša, received on Monday, July 11, 2016 the President of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Thomas Weikart, President of the European Table Tennis Union (ETTU) Ronald Kramer (Netherlands), Vice President of the ETTU Ivo Goran Munivrana and President of the Croatian Table Tennis Federation (HSTS) Zlatko Pospiš.
The leaders of world and European table tennis are staying in Zagreb on the occasion of the European Youth Championships that takes place in Dom Sportova from July 8th to July 17th. There will be 45 countries with more than 500 young table-tennis players participating at the Championships.
The President of the ITTF praised the excellent organization of Championships and Zagreb hospitality. Dom Sportova is an already established table tennis arena that hosted major events, so the conditions for young players are more than good, even comparable with senior Pro tours. The President of ETTU Kramer agreed with him, emphasizing that Croatia has a recognized table tennis tradition, particularly thanks to the notable players such as Dragutin Šurbek, Zoran Primorac and Tamara Boroš.
Munivrana, as Vice President of the ETTTU, responsible development of table tennis, reminded that at this Championships, in cooperation with the Croatian Olympic Committee, the Fair Play Award will be presented for the very first time. The President of the Croatian Table Tennis Federation Pospiš was also pleased with the organization of the Championships, which serves as a preparation and rehearsal for candidacy for the World Table Tennis Championships in 2019.
"The Croatian Table Tennis Federation has shown great experience in organizing the international competitions. And that was achieved, above all, thanks to many volunteers who are working hard, based on their love for table tennis", said the President Mateša.
