Three Croats have substantially contributed to the Olympic movement and its undoubtedly positive influence on the international community. Those were Anton Vrdoljak, IOC Member since 1995, Boris Bakrac, IOC Member from 1960 to 1987, and Franjo Bucar,IOC Member from 1920 to 1946.

 

The Croatian Sports History Society held a forum on three Croats on the IOC, on their experience, work and contribution to the development of the International Olympic movement, on 5 June 2009. Antun Vrdoljak, Member of two IOC Commissions (Radio and Television and Culture and Olympic Education) attended the forum himself, as well. Croatia's prominent sporting figures and sports history experts talked about Franjo Bucar, the first promoter of the modern Olympic movement in Croatia, after whom the highest state sports award is named.
