Bratislava / Zagreb, October 20, 2015 - In the organization of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) and the EOC's Athletes' Commission, supported by the Slovak Olympic Committee, on October 17 the 8th Forum of the European athletes was held in Bratislava.
The Athletes' Commission President, top Belgian athlete, table tennis player Jean Michel Saive, elected at the 4th Assembly of the European athletes in 2013 in Poreč, chaired the Forum. There were 80 representatives from 36 National Olympic committees actively participating in the work of the Forum, including the representatives from Croatia, President of the Athletes' Commission and member of the Croatian Olympic Committee's Council Sandra Mandir and Vice-President of the Croatian Olympians Club Danira Bilić.
At the Forum, the participants were discussing the legacy of the first European Games Baku 2015 and future of the next European Games, new code of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), current Olympic Solidarity programs and International Olympic Committee's programs for athletes, rules of the 40th and 50th Olympic Charter on the rights and limitations in advertising of athletes and events, cooperation between the Athletes' Commission and the EOC/EU Office in Brussels (Belgium), the role of social media during the Olympic Games and personal branding, etc.. Concerning every consideration and decision-making related to the Olympic movement, athletes' opinion represents a particularly important issue, said the Athletes' Commission President Jean-Michel Saive, adding that this is the only way an athlete can really be at the heart of the Olympic Movement.
The President of the Slovak Olympic Committee František Chmelar, EOC's Secretary General Raffaele Pagnozzi and member of the IOC Athletes' Commission Danka Bartek, welcomed the participants of the Forum. The conclusions from the Forum, organized on a regular basis every two years, will be sent to all the National Olympic committees. (/hoo/db/rj)
