BAKU, June 28th, 2015 (Hina/Croatian Olympic Committee) – After 16 days of competitions, the ending of the 1st European Games was marked with a spectacular Closing Ceremony held at the Olympic Stadium in Baku, in front of 64 000 spectators.


 
At the ending ceremony, the Croatian flag bearer was the boxer Josip Bepo Filipi, winner of bronze medal in the category up to 91 kg.
These Games featured great organization, with participation of 6,000 athletes from 50 countries including 106 Croatian competitors.

“Baku has significantly raised the rankings. The “Land of fire” has united the sports Europe. For the efforts undertaken in only 30 months in terms of organization of this competition you deserve a gold medal," said the President of the European Olympic Committee (EOC) Patrick Hickey, while the First Lady of Azerbaijan and President of the Organizing Committee Mehriban Aliyeva stressed that these Games represent the "Victory of the independent Azerbaijan".
"This country has great youth and a bright future," said the wife of the President Ilham Aliyev.

While at the Opening Ceremony the star was Lady Gaga, the performers at the Closing Ceremony were the British star John Newman, the renowned DJ Gareth Emery and Grammy winners Clean Bandit.

Croatian athletes have won a total of 11 medals at the European Games - one gold, four silver and six bronze medals. The most successful were the Russians with 79 gold, 40 silver and 45 bronze medals.
