Zagreb, 3rd of March 2014 - Croatian sports journalists perform an extremely difficult job in these turbulent times of the general commercialization of sports, and they find -in their newspapers and airing space – place for not only the professional, but also for the student, school and recreational sports – said the President of the Croatian Olympic Committee

Zlatko Matesa while presenting the award "Journalist of the year” to Romana Eibl at the traditional ceremony of the Croatian Sports Journalists Association (HZSN), held on March 3rd at the Jounalists’ Home in Zagreb . Romana Eibl, longtime journalist of Vjesnik, 24 sata and Jutarnji list won the award for uncompromised writing and firm attitude that make her distinctive and unique in Croatian journalism. Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Zvonimir Vukelic from Zagreb, journalist of Vecernji list, longtime reporter of events in football,handball and ice hockey, and to the Osijek journalist Dragutin Kerze who is, besides the excellent career in journalism, also active as a writer, publisherand sports official. Osijek’s radio journalist Mario Mihic was presented the award for radio journalism, while Branko Stipkovic from Sports News (Sportske novosti) was awarded for the "Shot on Friday”. The award for Journalism went to the journalist and writer from Solin, Jurica Gizdic, for his book "Croatia and Olympic medals”. The award for HZSN journalism on the local level went to "Viktorija”, sports supplement of the newspapers Novi List, while the award for the best -organized press- service in 2013 went to the football club Hajduk from Split. The Croatian Sports Journalists Association was founded on September 5th, 1991 and since then it is a regular member of the Croatian Olympic Committee.
