Zagreb, 18 Decembar 2014. - At the end of each year, the Croatian Olympic Committee traditionally selects the most successful Croatian athletes. Just like the previous years, the successes and medals came all around the world, so it was not easy to select the best ones.
However, concerning the competition of female athletes, there were no doubts: the world's best discus thrower Sandra Perković has won, for the third year in a row, the title of the best Croatian female athlete - this season she has won, again the third time in a row, the title of the European Champion. She has confirmed her domination by winning the Diamond League, and her shot of 71.08 meters was the best in the world since 1992.
By winning the silver medal in the Super combined at the Winter Olympics in Sochi for the fifth time in his career, Ivica Kostelić made sure to win the title of best Croatian male athlete. At the sunset of his career, the amazing Kostelić managed to win his fourth Olympic silver in the most demanding and most versatile discipline that combines technique, speed and courage, which is, unfortunately, slowly disappearing from the world of skiing.
National table tennis team, consisting of Andrei Gaćina, Tomislav Kojić, Tomislav Kolarek, Tomislav Pucar and Tan Ruiwu, are the winners of the award for best team thanks to the bronze they won at the European Championships in Lisbon. The award for the best female team went to the Croatian crossbow team, World Champions in the crossbow field discipline, consisting of: Nikolina Krivanek, Branka Pereglin and Valentina Pereglin. For the Croatian female crossbow shooters this is the eighth world title along with the same world record!
The rowers Valent and Martin Sinković were presented the award in the category of the most successful pairs, relays or crew. This year the Sinković brothers have won the title of World Champions, they are winners of the World Cup and in the semi-finals of the World Championships in Amsterdam they rowed the fastest race in the history of double sculls.
Special award for the best promoter of Croatia in the world went to the National football team, received by the president of Croatian Football Federation (HNS) and Davor Šuker.
