Zagreb, 27 December 2012 - Nothing can connect us that much like sports and sports achievements. Croatia is recognizable exactly by its male and female athletes, and it is up to us to keep it this way in the future as well – said the COC president Zlatko Matesa in the festive atmosphere of the Crystal ballroom of the hotel Westin where the “Great day of Croatian sports”,

the traditional event during which the Croatian Olympic Committee awards the best athletes, coaches, teams and sports professionals, was held. The best athletes in 2012 were Sandra Perkovic, Olympic champion in discus throwing and Giovanni Cernogoraz, winner of gold medal in men’s trap.


In team’s competition, the award went to the Olympic award winners – Croatian water polo team, and concerning the teams, the most successful was the Croatian crossbow field team that won the gold medal at the World championship.

COC presented the Honorary President of the COC and IOC member Antun Vrdoljak, who was also awarded at the London Olympics a Medal of the International Olympic Committee Pierre de Coubertin, with a special award.
