ZAGREB, September 10, 2010 - At the occasional ceremony, held in the Museum-Memorial Center Dražen Petrović, the award "Dražen Petrović", named after one of the best world's and Croatian basketball player and holder of three Olympic medals Dražen Petrović, was presented. The ceremony was attended by numerous athletes and sports officials, among them a member of the International Olympic Committee Antun Vrdoljak, Manager of the Directorate for Sports at the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports Željko Klarić, Dražen's mother Biserka Petrović and the host of the ceremony, President of the Croatian Olympic Committee Zlatko Mateša.


The winner of this prestigious Croatian Olympic Committee's award for young athletes is the most promising female athlete, judoka Barbara Matić. This year Barbara has won two bronze medals at the first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore 2010 and besides that, she is also the winner of the title European Cadet Champion and winner of bronze medal at the World Cadet Championships in 2009.


The award for the most promising young athlete went to the young boxer Filip Hrgović, World Junior Champion, winner of gold in the category super heavyweight at the Youth World Championships in Azerbaijan.


In men's team competition, the award went to the National Men's Cadet Team (Mislav Brzoja, Martin Junaković, Karlo Lebo, Ivan Jukić, Dino Šamanić, Dario Šarić, Dominik Mavra, Antonio Črnjević, Tomislav Radoš, Nikola Urli, Daniel Zovko, Filip Bundović), the winners of gold medal at the European Championships. In women's team competition, the award went to the National Women's Cadet Basketball Team U-16 (Ana-Marija Begić, Lana Pačkovski, Inja Butina, Ivana Tikvić, Ružica Džankić, Antonija Chiabov, Iva Cigić, Andrijana Cvitković, Anja Majstorović, Dana Šarić, Lucija Martinović, Karmen Čičić), winners of the silver medal at the European Championships in August this year in Greece.


According to the Ordinance on the Presentation of the Award, Barbara Matić and Filip Hrgović will receive the prizes in cash, in the gross amount of HRK 20.000,00, while each member of the women and men's team shall receive the prizes in cash in the gross amount of HRK 2.000,00.
