After an extraordinary historical record on the Olympians, holders of Olympic medals i.e. the book "Croatia and Olympic medals" written by Jurica Gizdić and published in 2011, COC has published his latest book on the coaches and managers of the national teams, the book "Blacksmiths of Croatian Olympic medals".
The book presents – on 180 pages – all the managers of national teams and coaches, 137 of them, who have participated in winning the Olympic medals from the Olympic Games in Paris in 1900 up to the Winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014. Of course, at the top of this brilliant list is the founder of numerous sports and promoter of Olympic idea in Croatia, Franjo Bučar, after whom the greatest national sports reward was named. The book was presented on December 8th at the Faculty of Kinesiology of the University of Zagreb, in the presence of the COC President Zlatko Mateša and other notables of Croatian sports, university professors and students of the Faculty, reviewers and, of course, the author himself who explained his motives for writing this book - in the opinion of all,very precious contribution to the history and present of Croatian sports. "I'm glad that COC is the publisher of the book that talks about people who have trained and educated the winners of Olympic medals. It is no coincidence that presentation of the book is held at the Faculty of Kinesiology because its students were people who are not only part of our sports history, but also of its present and future, said Mr. Zlatko Mateša, President of the Croatian Olympic Committee.
The host, Dean of the Faculty of Kinesiology Damir Knjaz, expressed his satisfaction that the presentation of the book on coaches who have indebted many generations with their outstanding achievements, is held in the premises of the oldest Croatian scientific-educational institution for training of coaches. This institution that celebrates this year its 55th anniversary, has educated – so far- more than 5,000 professors and masters of kinesiology and approximately 3,000 coaches.The book was commented by reviewers, Vice President of the Croatian Olympians Club Danira Bilić, Jura Ozmec, President of the Croatian Society of Sports Journalists and President of the COC Information and Publishing Commission and editor-in-chief of the book Ante Drpić.
